Patriotic holidays are always a good time to draw in crowds. Consider decorating your restaurant in red, white, and blue, and offering themed dishes or drinks to celebrate.

Father’s Day is one of the most important dates for restaurants in June. Plan special menus, promotions, and events to attract families looking to treat their dads to a special meal.

If your restaurant serves sushi, this is a prime opportunity to feature your best rolls, offer sushi-making classes, or run a promotion to attract sushi lovers.

           June 19 - Juneteenth

Juneteenth is a significant holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Consider celebrating African American culture and cuisine by featuring special dishes, hosting events, or collaborating with Black-owned businesses.

June 21 - Summer Solstice (First Day of Summer)

Welcome the first day of summer with seasonal specials, outdoor seating promotions, or a summer kickoff event. Highlighting fresh, summery dishes and drinks can draw in customers looking to celebrate the season.

If your restaurant features desserts, National Pralines Day is a great time to showcase praline-based sweets. It’s also an opportunity to introduce your customers to something new if they haven’t tried pralines before.

Ceviche is a refreshing, citrusy dish perfect for summer. If your menu includes ceviche, promote it heavily on this day to attract seafood lovers.

One of our long time clients got featured on the local news. Here's what happened, and how it went!

Here's what happens when you get featured on the news!

One of our long time clients, Urban Gyro, was recently featured in a local news station, Channel 4 - Detroit. When you get featured on a big news channel, there's a few things that happen, and are really great.

First thing that happens is that you get a good flow of customers coming in because of the publicity, especially when it's from a segment called Tasty Tuesday, and your food gets featured live in the TV station, and all the hosts there are trying your food, and saying good things about your food.

Second thing that happens is the authoritative links that you get from their website. News station websites are some of the most authoritative websites in the world. That means that when you get a link back to your website, that will automatically alert the Google algorithm, especially when that link is organic. So you as a restaurant (or any business, really) would benefit tremendously from the link juice that's passed down to your own website.

Third thing that happens is the traffic, and the retargetting you can do. If you have Facebook Pixel set up correctly, you can track these website visitors, and then retarget them later, in order for you to stay Top-Of-Mind.

These are just a few of direct things that happened the day of. There's also a few things that happen indirectly, such as more local newspapers picking up the story and running it, the number of database growing because people are signing up for the VIP Club on the restaurant's website, all the social media love on Facebook groups, and much more.

This boost helped the restaurant a lot, as it would any restaurant. But in order to see the value of something like this, you have to be prepared. We had a few things in place that made this turn out great. The restaurant has a well-built website, on a very solid platform, which is capable of handling thousands of visits at a time, also known as traffic spikes. We have Facebook Pixel installed on the website, so that means that we have the ability to retarget people on Facebook and Instagram.

Think about how much potential this client would've lost if his website wasn't up for the traffic spikes, or the Facebook Pixel wasn't installed, or worse off, they didn't even have a website. The fact that there's restaurants (or any business in the face of the earth) without a website in this day and age, it's just mind blowing.

How this restaurant used communication to help during a power outage

By using RESO360, this restaurant was able to communicate with its client database effectively and efficiently thanks to technology.

           Is your restaurant power outage-proof?

One of the restaurants we work with got affected by a power outage recently, that left about 120,000 homes and businesses without power for a few days. In times like this, restaurants are scrambling around trying to find a solution, trying to get in contact with the electric company to get an ETA, and most importantly, trying to figure out what to do with the food. Mind you, it's summer, so the temperatures don't really favor the food.

Thankfully for this particular restaurant, they're utilizing technology to aid them in times like this. After notifying RESO360 as soon as they lost power and couldn't get an ETA, RESO360 immediately broadcasted the message on their Google, social media channels, and their customer database.

But RESO360 doesn't stop there. We have built a call tracking feature on the restaurant's Google page. More specifically, this feature is called 'Missed Call Text Back'. So what happens is when people call the business and nobody answers, they automatically get a text message on their phone that usually says: "Thank you for calling {{location name}}, it seems like you've reached us outside our working hours. Reply back with Hours, Directions, Contact or Order Online". Then when people reply, the software takes them a certain path.

But in an emergency situation like a power outage, we immediately changed the message to say "Thank you for calling {{location name}}. As of {{today's date}}, we're out of power, and we haven't been given an ETA. Sorry for the inconvinience, feel free to call back later".

It might seem like a small feature, but it truly helps, especially in situations like a power outage. We also used the same feature to alert people when the restaurant was closed for a week vacation during the July 4th holiday.

If you're looking to take your restaurant to the next level,

. The good thing about RESO360 is that we can customize a plan that fits your needs.

How to make email marketing work for your restaurant

If done right, email marketing can be a very powerful tool

Email marketing is a great tool, that can have some great ROI for restaurants (and any business, for that matter). But the key to having successful email marketing campaigns is to use it the right way.

For most businesses, emails have an average open rate of about 10%...MAYBE 15% if you're really lucky. The same goes for restaurants, which see similar open rates. For this reason, most restaurants don't utilize this powerful tool, because they're afraid they're not going to get great open rates.

Truth of the matter is that you will not in fact get a great open rate if email marketing is done just like any other restaurant. You have to stand out. If you're having conversations with your customers, instead of spamming them, you will see a great open rate. Most of our clients, believe it or not, see anywhere from 40-55% open rate, which is mostly unheard of.

One of our restaurants, for example, sees an open rate of 40-45% constantly. That's because RESO does email marketing in a conversational way, instead of blasting a list of 6,000+ subscribers with spam.

If you're a restaurant owner or manager, ask yourself, when was the last time your email campaign got such high of an open rate?

If you have, great! Continue doing what you're doing.

            If you haven't,

13 Social Media Ideas for November 2022

November is almost here, and RESO is here to help you with thirteen ideas you can use to plan your monthly social media posts. Feel free to use the ideas for yourself, and spread with your restaurant/bakery/cafe friends.

Dia de los Muertos - Tuesday, Nov 1st.

"The day of the dead" is the day after Halloween, and mostly celebrated in Mexico. If you have a Mexican restaurant, this would be perfect to run some specials.

Daylight Savings Time Ends - Sunday, Nov 6th.

Celebrate "gaining an hour" for Daylight Savings Time ending. You can get very creative with some specials for this day. Make sure your state observes daylight savings time. In US, Arizona and Hawaii don't observe daylight savings time.

National Cappuccino Day - Tuesday, Nov 8th.

If you're a cafe/bakery, this would be the perfect day to celebrate the National Cappuccino day.

Midterm Elections - Tuesday, Nov 8th.

Elections are a huge part of the American democracy, so urge people to vote. You can even give a discount to people that show you their 'voted' stickers, but you have to play this carefully.

Veterans Day - Friday, Nov 11th.

Veterans have done a lot for our country, and the Veterans Day is the perfect day to give back to them. Run some specials, or even offer a free something to veterans.

World Kindness Day - Sunday, Nov 13th.

There has never been a better time to celebrate kindness. Especially after the pandemic, everyone needs some kindness in their life. Use this day to encourage people to be kind, for example starting with your staff. We all know that restaurant staff gets to deal with some pretty rude people.

International Students Day - Thursday, Nov 17th.

Offer a discount to students on "International Students Day" to get people, especially students, to visit your establishment. And you can even incentivize this by having the students 'check-in' on Facebook in order to get the discount. Play around with some ideas.

National espresso Day - Wednesday, Nov. 23rd.

Just like the National Cappuccino Day, you can use this day to promote your specials, or even invite customers for a free espresso. Obviously, this would work if you serve espresso, ie. a coffee shop.

           Thanksgiving - Thursday, Nov. 24th.

This would depend on whether you're closed for Thanksgiving or not, but if you're closed, this would be a great opportunity to take a moment and show your followers what you're grateful for, and a chance to show your staff that you're grateful for them.

Black Friday - Friday, Nov. 25th.

It's not only retail stores that have Black Friday deals going on. Your restaurant can too, and this would be the perfect opportunity to showcase them.

September is upon us, and RESO360 is here to help your restaurant with 9 social media ideas that you can post this month besides your daily specials. Please note that not all of them might apply to your particular restaurant, but use this a general guidance calendar.

Wednesday, September 7th: International Beer Lovers Day

This one is actually helpful for bars and restaurants that actually carry beer, although other restaurants can use this to get creative also. If you have a bar or sell beer, make sure you run a special, and promote it on social media. Use hashtag #BeerLoversDay

           Friday, September 9th: Weekend specials

Fridays are usually a good day to share with your followers your weekend specials, or any other weekend plans you might have.

Sunday, September 11th: Day of Service & Remembrance

On this day we honor the lives lost during the September 11th terrorist attacks, and the heroes that risked their lives. Use hashtag #NeverForget911 on social media.

           Tuesday, September 13th: Customer Review

Share with your social media a recent 5-star customer review that you might have gotten.

Pro tip: customer reviews on Facebook, Google and Yelp are a great way to screenshot, and share with your followers on different platforms.

Thursday, September 15th: Hispanic Heritage Month begins

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from Sept. 15th to Oct. 15th to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture and achievements in the US. Use this month to run your south-of-the-border specials, or you can even create a special just for this month. Use hashtag #HispanicHeritageMonth

Thursday, September 22nd: First Day of Fall

This day marks the first day of the fall equinox. This is also a good time to remind people of any specials you have coming up for fall. For example, a lot of restaurants bring back pumpkin pies. Get creative!

Saturday, September 24th: Small Business Saturday

We actually encourage restaurants to post somethign about Small Business Saturday every Saturday, not just this particular one. In this time and day, people would love to support small, so why not use it to your advantage?

Monday, September 26th: National Pancake Day

If you serve breakfast, chances are you serve pancakes! So use this day to hype up your pancake specials. Of you can even offer a free pancake with a purchase

Thursday, September 29th: National Coffee Day

This would be a perfect day to offer a free coffee with any purchase, if you serve coffee, of course. You can pre-hype your free coffee offer days before.

Use this day to have some fun with your followers, whether on Facebook and Instagram. Don't take your jokes too far though, as it can backfire on you. Also make sure to not offend anyone. Use hashtag #AprilFoolsDay.

If you're running any Easter sales, right now is the right time to start announcing and promoting them. Or if you're closed for Easter, right now is the right time to start announcing that you're closed on Easter.

This weekend is the right time to wish everyone a happy Easter, perhaps with the hashtag #EasterWeekend.

So I was scrolling on Facebook, and saw this post that caught my attention. You can read the post for yourself, but the moral is that your restaurant can have the best food on earth, if you're not where your (current and potential) customers are, you're lost. Having just a sign up front isn't going to cut it anymore. The person in this post is literally telling the restaurant that they either haven't noticed you, or they're not paying attention.

Truth of the matter is that people are glued to their mobile devices. We all are! It's sad to still see restaurant owners in 2022 not having a digital presence. Being at the very least on Facebook, Instagram and Google is 100% free. There's no excuse for anyone to ignore digital.

If you're a restaurant owner, for the love of God get with the times! You've only got 2 options: Struggle to survive, or thrive. The choice is yours, but the clock is ticking.

And just like that, 2021 is over! January 2022 is only 3 days away. Januarys also mean a slow month for restaurants, as people have spent a lot of money on the holidays, so they're not eating out as much. Plus, a lot of people start their new year's resolution, which usually means not eating out.

So what should restaurants do? Since it's slow anyways, should they just ride it out?

Restaurants should never, ever, take their foot of the gas. As a restaurant, you should continue to be active on social media, especially Facebook and Instagram.

This is a recent post on a local Facebook group that I'm part of. Someone had been to a local restaurant. They had an amazing experience, and they were asking in the group, why don't they frequent more?

Unfortunately, this happens quite often in the restaurant industry. People aren't visiting your restaurant more often because you're not in their faces! And their faces are on their mobile devices. The only reason why people go to national chains is because they're constantly in their faces.

Local restaurant owners think that national chains have some huge marketing pockets, that's why they thrive. While that is true, they also have something that local restaurants have; data (or the ability to collect customer data). And that data includes phone numbers, emails, names, whatever it might be.

The sad part is that most restaurants do have customer data that they have collected, either through their POS system, their online ordering system, whatever the case might be. The next issue is that they're not using the power of the data. Data is the new gold! Look at the biggest companies in the world today, Amazon, Google, Facebook, DoorDash, Uber...they are where they are because of data. And they use this data to make billions.

By using the data they already have (or start collecting data if they don't have it), the restaurants can start sending people reminders that they exist! Most restaurant owners think they need to send coupons, and this is absolutely not true. All people need is gentle reminders that you're open, you're ready to serve them, you exist!

Why a website for your restaurant is the first thing you should get done

It's the most neglected item on a restaurant owner's list, yet a website is the single most important digital channel you should pay attention to.

The importance of websites for restaurants

When it comes to taking your restaurant digital, the very first thing you should do is get a website. This is by far the single most important digital channel that unfortunately a lot of restaurants either ignore, or don't pay attention to how it's built.

A website is your restaurant's outdoor sign, except that it's online. Can you imagine not having a sign out front? Who's going to know that you're there, if you don't tell people that you exist?

Imagine for a second that your outdoor sign is crooked, it's not lit at night, and has the wrong information on it. The same goes for a website that's outdated, has the wrong information about your restaurant, and isn't easily accessible.

Not having a website vs. having an outdated website

You'd think that not having a website is worse than having an outdated website, but actually they're both bad.

Not having a website means that the digital world doesn't know you exist. You might have some other digital listings such as Google Listing, Yelp page, Facebook page, etc, but these are platforms that you don't control. Anybody can edit these websites, and most of the time you cannot control the information on them, or you can control very little information on them.

Having an outdated website on the other hand is just as bad. You might have an old menu that confuses people (and leads them to leave bad reviews because your actual menu has higher prices), and the wrong hours of operation can hurt your restaurant because people will show up when you're closed.

Why you should get a website for your restaurant

A website is without a question the only thing you can control online. You can control the information, you can control the menu, you can control the pictures.

Another main reason to have a website is exposure. According to multiple studies, 77% of people will check a restaurant's website before going. That's more than 3/4 of your potential customers that you could potentially be missing out on because they can't find you online. Can you afford that?

The list of reasons to have a website are endless. That's why RESO360.com has made it stupidly affordable to have a proper digital presence for your restaurant. For about $2/day, you can make sure you're properly found online through a medium that you can control!

How to enable 'Dine-In' on your restaurant's Google Listing [Step by step]

A step-by-step tutorial on how to enable the 'Dine-in' option on your Google Listing, or Google My Business page.

Because of Covid-19, Google automatically disabled dine-in service for all restaurants in states that had 'Stay-at-home' orders, and one of these states was Michigan.

Before we start with the tutorial, I want to say that in order for this to work, you have to be the manager of your Google Listing, or in other words, you must have claimed your restaurant on Google.

How do I know if I have access to my Google Listing?

To know if you have access to your Google Listing or not, go to Google and search for your restaurant. When your restaurant comes up, before the search results, there should be a section that only you can see. Take a look at the picture below to see what I'm talking about:

If you don't see this, then the reason for that could be a few things:

You're logged into a different Google Account.

Make sure you're logged into the right Google Account, the one which you have claimed your Google Listing with.

            You haven't claimed your listing.

If that's the case, then on the right hand side of this same page, under the restaurant information, there are two links that say: 'Suggest an edit - Own this business?'. If you can see 'Own this business?', then this most likely means that nobody has claimed this listing, so you need to click on 'Own this business?', which then would take you to verify that you are indeed the owner of this business.

Someone else has claimed your listing.

Maybe your cousin, a worker in your restaurant, a manager, or someone you know has already claimed your Google Listing. If that's the case, you need to ask them to give you access to it. It's important that you're always in control of your Google Listing, along with Facebook Page, Yelp Page, and any other listings pertaining to your restaurant.

If you've verified that you're the listing owner, and you see the section above, here's what you need to do:

           Step 1: Go to business.google.com

Step 2: Click on your location, as demonstrated below

You most likely will only see 1 location, your restaurant's location

Step 3: On the left sidebar, click on 'Info'

Restaurants will change...will you be ready for it?

Restaurants will change! Dine-in restaurants will most likely never be the same.

Unfortunately for locally owned restaurants, it comes down to this: go digital, or bust!

         A huge change is coming

If you've been paying attention, you know that the COVID-19 pandemic isn't going away any time soon. This is going be very costly for restaurants, especially dine-in restaurants. Once the states decide to open up, it will be a gradual opening up that will take months. And when the opening up starts, restaurants will be able to only operate at 50% capacity. Will you be able to stay afloat at only 50% capacity? Unfortunately, a lot of restaurants will be forced to give up and close down for good. Sorry that we have to be the bearers of the bad news.

Who will be able to "make it"?

National chains will be able to stay afloat. Why? Because they were prepared. But how could anyone be prepared for this? Nobody expected it!

While it's true that this is something unexpected, national chains were already digital. By digital, we mean they had a strong digital presence, with a

            online ordering

, and most importantly, they possessed a customer database with

            phone numbers

          and emails.

By having a website, social media presence and a customer database, they could keep their current customers and future customers updated on their opening hours, their limited menus for carryouts, the curbside service they started offering, and more. And with an online ordering system in place, they didn't have an issue at all transitioning from phone orders to a much better and simpler way for customers to order and pay online with cards.

We must note that most restaurants did have some type of online ordering via third-party delivery services like Doordash, GrubHub and Ubereats. But the fact of the matter is that the third party delivery services came with a very hefty price tag...like having to pay almost 35% per order. But what's worse is the fact that these aren't the restaurants' customers, therefore the restaurant doesn't get any information like phone numbers and emails so they could turn these third-party customers into their own loyal customers.

The good news is that it's never too late to get started with going digital. It's time for restaurants to go digital or bust! Sorry to be so blunt about it, but that's the reality. Whether you accept it or not, that's on you.
